Round Robin Recap: Spengler Cup

While the World Juniors in Buffalo proves to be a bit more lackluster entertainment since Boxing Day, the Spengler Cup has been a roller coaster for every team there.

Team Switzerland was the lone dominant team, running over Riga 6-1 and shutting out HPK 4-0. While in Group B Canada looked hungry for their third straight championship getting past Mountfield 5-3 in the opener and 4-1 over the host Davos. Both the Swiss & Canada will advance to the semi-finals on Saturday.

Team Canada will face the winner of Mountfield and Riga. Dinamo Riga’s lone win came in overtime over HPK (4-3) while Mountfield went winless through round robin play.

Team Switzerland will take on the winner of Davos and HPK. Davos clearly has more firepower but will they have the legs after a hard-fought battle with Canada and their 3rd game in just over 48 hours.

What a tournament it has been so far, we’ve seen six sell out crowds, OT, big hits, tons of goals and a lot of motivated players looking to crack their respective Olympic rosters.
