Champions Hockey League: Semi Finals Leg 1

A four goal second period and a hot goalie made the difference during today’s semi final matches.

Semi final one in Finland saw JYP Jyvaskyla take on Ocelari Trinec and despite the road Czechs get on the board first, JYP responded with 4 second period goals and held on to win 4-2.  Mikko Maenpaa  Robert Rooba and Janne Kolehmainen had goals for Jyvaskyla. Trinec tried to push back in the third but they looked to be out of gas and running low on firepower.

Semi final one in the Czech Rep saw Bílí Tygři Liberec take on the Växjö Lakers. Liberec was heavily outshot but Jaroslav Janus held the white tigers in this one as they salvaged a tie off a third period goal from  Lukáš Jašek. Both teams took stupid penalties and both teams powerplays were brutal. Two pro teams going 0 for 5 is almost unheard of and for Liberec to only muster 21 shots on goal you can see why they’re fighting to not get relegated in their regular league.

Semi finals leg 2 will be Jan.16.
