Following European hockey this season has had its ups and downs, but no one could have predicted these playoffs in the Czech Republic.
Plzen finished the season in first with an astounding 107 points and Mountfield ended in second with 99, now both are on the verge of elimination in the worst form, a sweep.
Oceláři Třinec wiped the floor with Mountfield this morning 5-1 and it wasn’t even close. They dominated like the Vegas Golden Knights taking on the Brampton Beast. Now Třinec is about the same size as Prince Albert, so when they’re going up against clubs like Sparta and Plzen it’s a David vs Goliath situation to a tee. The fact that they’re going into Game 4 at home with a chance to sweep is bonkers.
Kometa Brno is the reigning champ, but after a disappointing regular season some had counted them out. They’ve yet to lose these playoffs and really haven’t given anyone a reason to doubt them. Heading back to the DRFG Arena with a 2-0 series lead and a hot goaltender like Marek Ciliak, Brno is looking well on their way to knocking off the #1 seed Plzen.
Game 4 goes tomorrow between Trinec and Mountfield and Game 3 is Wednesday between Brno and Plzen.
