A disappointing season for the C of Red has the coaches packing their bags.
The Calgary Flames announced Tuesday that they have canned Glen Gulutzan and his assistants Dave Cameron and Paul Jerrard. Gulutzan finished his time with the Flames with a 82-68-14 record and one playoff appearance, needless to say, those are under-performing stats for a team with young stars.
So what do the Flames do now?
A young team upfront, with an aging back end and a goalie with maybe two more years left in his prime will prove to be a tough task for any coach.
Maybe an experienced NHL coach? Darryl Sutter led the Kings to two cups.
A coach who can turn around a group of losers? Dave Tippett led the Coyotes to the playoffs and won a Jack Adams trophy.
Heading overseas? Mike Keenan (another former flames coach) got released by Kunlun this season after coaching Metallurg Magnitogorsk, who won two KHL championships from 2013-16.
Other wildcards available; Lindy Ruff, Jeff Jackson, Adam Oates and of course….. Jarome Iginla.
None the less, Calgary is now searching for their fifth new head coach since the 2009.
