It was a rough go for the WHL champs.
After blowing multiple leads against the Acadie-Bathurst Titan, struggling offensively against the Hamilton Bulldogs and crumbling under pressure against Regina, the Swift Current Broncos have booked their spot for the Memorial Cup final.
Long story short, their offence collapsed without Team Canada WJC hero Tyler Steenbergen in the lineup. Stuart Skinner’s one good game wasn’t enough to make up for two sub par performances when it mattered the most. Sure his numbers aren’t going to be awful (4+GAA, .902SV%), but anyone who watched knows that the Broncos got outplayed in every category.
Giorgio Estephan led the way for the Broncos with six points in three games and was by far their best forward. Glenn Gawdin added an offensive spark when things seemed dead for Swift city, but ultimately they didn’t put together a 60 minute effort which is a shame for a team with that much fire-power.
Regina will take on Hamilton in the SF on Friday, while Acadie-Bathurst will meet the winner Sunday evening.
