NHL draft profile: Matthew Thiessen

Since 2010 the Manitoba Junior Hockey League has had 12 alumni drafted to the NHL.

Could Matthew Thiessen be the next? The 6’2 netminder is committed to the University of Maine for 2019-20, he led the MJ in wins with 28, was first with a 2.06 GAA and second in the league with a .923 save percentage.

Thiessen’s an interesting prospect because he could turn out to be an elite college goaltender, or he could end up being a bust at the next level. The Piston looks bigger than his listed size in net, and moves very well as he led his junior squad to the RBC Cup.

Altona’s finest has potential to be a solid pick in the 5th round. I could see a team like Vancouver or Philly taking a risk on him as both seemingly have their goalie of the future set, so the potential to have a well developed back up who moves well could work out.
