Champions Hockey League preview

It’s that time of year again! The Champions Hockey League is less than a week away.

For those of you knew to the CHL, here’s a couple simple breakdowns.

Now there’s a ton of teams, so I’m just going to break down Day 1 (Aug.30), and then tell you the teams to watch, and the teams to avoid.

Plzen vs Lugano could be an interesting matchup…. Plzen’s goaltending is very questionable with the young Frodl, and the bxl Milchakov. They have some studs upfront in Hollweg, Straka and Allen. On the back end, Jakub Kindl could be the best defenceman in the cze this season. Lugano has Maxim Lapierre, Taylor Chorney and my personal favourite based on his beard and Spengler Cup performance alone, Linus Klasen. Elvis is good in goal, but I’m giving the advantage to Plzen. 5-3 Plzen wins

Vaxjo vs Bern. This one may be a low scoring game with Fasth vs Genoni, but I think it’s a cant miss Day 1 opener. The Swedes are going to be high stepping at home and I can’t see Andrew Ebbett, Mark Arcobello and Jan Mursak causing too many problems. Real excited to watch St Louis Blues first round pick Dominik Bokk! 4-1 Vaxjo wins

Jyväskylä is going to stomp on Banská Bystrica, Zurich may win by 10 over Aalborg and Frolunda is bound to run up on Vienna.

Cardiff vs RB Salzburg could be a good game, but expect Chris VandeVelde to be a difference maker as he’s chasing a bounce back season.

Teams to watch: Zurich, Malmo, Helsinki, Brno, Trinec, Karpat, Vaxjo, Plzen.

Avoid if possible: Rouen, Storhamar, Tychy, Aalborg.

Keep up to date with the games here! Going to be a wild ride forsure https://www.championshockeyleague.com/en/schedule#select_schedule=0
