What a game.
These are types of games that make this tournament so great. All hope of being in the game were dashed after Sweden’s 4th goal, but that wasn’t the case in this battle. Ryan Poehling’s name was all over this game, as he scored all of the American’s goals and was he ever impressive. The US forced OT with 30 seconds left in the game and went in with all the momentum. In OT the goal came off a turnover in the neutral zone and was finished by Adam Boqvist off of a beautiful passing play.
Other noticeable performances came from Joel Farabee and Oliver Wahlstrom. Setting up two goals each. These players have been consistent contributors for the US so far and expect them to keep doing the same. Kyle Keyser started the game which could signal to him being the “guy” for the rest of the tournament, stopping 27 of 31 shots, he had a solid outing. All credit deserves to go to the battle through resilience to put themselves back in the game. Some of the players we are expecting to dominate for the americans have been quiet thus far.
The US next game comes against another good opponent in Finland on New Years Eve. This team looks like it could finish 4-0-1 and if there is a rematch against Sweden, we could see yet another exciting game.
