This one was in the bag for the Americans from the drop of the puck.

The US peppered Czech goalie Dostal with 40 shots and he once again kept his team in another game with a far superior team. The story of the tournament for the Czech’s was their top players were no where to be found, most notably Filip Zadina. He entered the quarterfinal game with only one point, despite absolutely dominating the tournament last year.

The Americans started Cayden Primeau and he is the “guy” for the rest of the tournament. The Americans opened the scoring with a goal by Noah Cates and Jack Hughes returned to the fray and assisted the goal. The Americans scored on a beautiful breakaway goal by Ottawa Senators prospect Josh Norris. Finally capping off the night with a goal by Sasha Chmelevski late in the third. All around good game from Team USA.

After the quarterfinals, you can expect that the Americans just became the favourites of the tournament, with upsets coming to both Canada and Sweden. The US will play Russia on Friday in the Semis. This will be the hardest test for the Americans and could be the “real” gold medal game with no disrespect to the Finns. The Russians started off pretty average, but really brought their A game and an outstanding goalie performance by the Russian goalie against Canada.

USA comes into this game with the slight edge, but it will all come down to star power and goaltending. Primeau hasn’t been tested nearly as much as Russia’s goaltender. Unlike Canada, the Americans have been able to beat hot goalies. This game will need to be dominated by the American’s veteran players, look to Poehling, Norris, Anderson to have big games. And of course with a player like Jack Hughes you can expect him to pick up his game as well.

The Americans take on Russia Friday at 4pm Est.
