Nikita Kucherov: the inopportune scorer

There’s no doubt Nikita Kucherov can score, but it’s not against the leagues elite.

Based off the 2018 NHL Playoffs, I’ll call Washington, Vegas, Winnipeg, Nashville, Pittsburgh and San Jose true “elite” teams.

Against those teams this season (10 games), Kucherov has two goals and is a -13

It’s great he’s got 90+ points already, but does putting up 4-5 points in games against Edmonton, Philly, New Jersey and LA really help Tampa when they’re winning by at least three goals a game?

In six games against current division leaders (NYI, WPG, SJS) Kucherov has one goal and three assists in six games, while going -3.

No one is saying he’s a bad player, but surely he’s an inopportune scorer.
